More than a month after the arrest of Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, alias’ El Nini’, a narcocorrido was shared on social media that would reveal new details about his capture registered on November 22 in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
The former head of security for Los Chapitos (a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by the sons of Joaquín’ El Chapo’ Guzmán) was arrested by elements of the National Guard in an exclusive area known as Colinas de la Rivera, where an operation was deployed that did not culminate in an intense shootout. This was even though the 31-year-old drug trafficker was a priority target for Mexican and American authorities.
The corrido was published on December 25 on the profile of one of the members of Cartel Group, an aggregation formed in August 2006 in Culiacán, characterized by its norteño rhythm that has been mixed with narcocorridos in the last years.
The main accordionist, Piyuyi, spread the new musical theme of ‘El Nini’ on his Instagram account. Although it is not the official version, he showed an advance of one and a half minutes in which new information is provided about how the arrest of this criminal leader occurred.
“Greetings and blessings to all my friends, I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year (…) Here is half of the corrido just a little taste to get you started,” wrote the Sinaloa musician on his profile accompanied by the tags #19 and #09, nicknames given to “El Nini”.”
According to the musical topic, tentatively titled ‘National Goal’, Néstor was not accompanied by his escort of hitmen when the National Guard arrested him. “(My) Special Group, I could not fight this time because I was caught alone without a team to battle. I can no longer escape”, one can hear in a part of the composition.
Likewise, it is mentioned that the operator of Los Chapitos was incommunicado moments before the operation was deployed in Culiacan. “They took down the signal. I could not communicate with either radios or cellphones because they took all the precautions not to fail. The national objective.”
Although in official reports it was indicated that his capture was carried out by elements of the National Guard, in the song, it is stated that personnel from the Navy (Semar), from the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), and agents from the United States of America (USA) also participated in these actions.

“The medals were already hung, those of the National Guard, the Marines, and the Sedena. The gringos also supported (…) that and others”, it is mentioned in another fragment.
Before the video ends, reference is made to other occasions when Mexican authorities tried to detain “El Nini”, as happened on January 5, 2023 (when Ovidio Guzman, leader of Los Chapitos, was captured) and January 7 of that same year.
Currently, El Nini is locked up in the El Altiplano prison in the municipality of Almoloya de Juárez in the State of Mexico. US authorities are seeking his extradition, as he faces charges in the District of Columbia and Southern New York for activities related to drug trafficking and money laundering.
