We will soon try to connect with my colleague Maru Rojas, because in a joint operation, the Navy Secretariat and the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office captured Miguel Ángel—specifically Carlos Miguel Ángel, known as “El Abulón”—in a private gated community in the city of Oaxaca.
Let’s go to the report. Maru, very good morning. It’s a pleasure to greet you. Omar, very good morning. Indeed, this is an individual whose first, middle, and last names all begin with the letter “M,” but he goes by the alias “El Abulón.” He has been identified as the second-in-command of “Los Mezcales,” a group cited as a primary source of violence, particularly in the state of Colima.
According to security authorities, the organization is linked to homicides, extortion, street-level drug dealing, and territorial disputes in municipalities such as Villa de Álvarez, Tecomán, Armería, and Manzanillo—crimes that directly impact the safety of residents and businesses in these areas.
The arrest was the result of intelligence work and information sharing between the Naval Intelligence Unit and the Oaxaca State Investigation Agency. The alleged member of this criminal structure has been placed at the disposal of prosecutorial authorities; it will now be up to the judicial authorities to determine his legal status and, if applicable, Omar, to arrange his transfer to appear before the judge requesting him. We will be keeping an eye on this. That’s the report—a significant blow dealt by the Navy.
