During the last three days, criminal structures from the Sinaloa Cartel have been engaged in a battle for control of the Gulf of Santa Clara in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, one of the most important strategic points for drug trafficking in the northwest region of Mexico.
On Tuesday, March 19th, one of the principal lieutenants of Chapiza in that area, Samuel Ibarra Peralta, known as “Pía,” was killed during a confrontation with the opposing group led by the Rusos.
“Since last weekend, there has been an intense armed conflict that has affected the region, where shootings, murders, and arrests have caused great distress in the community belonging to the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado.”
Through a photograph where Pía is seen lying on a dirt floor, the murder of this well-known lieutenant, who operated in the Mexicali Valley but was expelled by the Russians, who lead the illicit market in the capital of Baja California and its valley, is confirmed.

For several days now, authorities in Sonora have strengthened surveillance and closed access to that community due to armed clashes, where detentions have also been documented, mainly of the Los Rusos. Still, murders have been reported at various points along the Gulf and on adjacent highway sections.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Security of Baja California confirmed that due to the violent episodes that have occurred in the neighboring community, surveillance in the border area of the Mexicali Valley has been reinforced to prevent any violent episodes resulting from the armed attacks that took place in that municipality.
