Mexican authorities have arrested Audias Flores Silva, alias “El Jardinero,” one of the most important figures inside the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación and a man long identified by U.S. authorities as a CJNG regional commander on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

The arrest took place in Nayarit during an operation planned and executed by SEMAR Fuerzas Especiales, according to Mexico’s security secretary, Omar García Harfuch. Flores Silva had an active arrest warrant in Mexico and was also wanted by U.S. authorities for extradition purposes.

The U.S. government had offered up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest or conviction. The U.S. Treasury previously identified “El Jardinero” as a CJNG regional commander controlling territory along the Pacific coast, including Nayarit.

His capture is a major blow to CJNG at a sensitive moment. Mexican media have described Flores Silva as one of the possible successors to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” and one of the cartel’s strongest remaining operators in the Pacific corridor.
Authorities have not yet released the exact municipality, whether weapons were seized, or whether additional people were arrested with him.
