The Federal Security Cabinet reported the arrest of two alleged members of the “Los Chapitos” faction of the Sinaloa Cartel following raids in Mazatlán.
Operations Continue in the Country’s North
Federal authorities arrested two alleged members of the “Los Chapitos” faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, seizing doses of drugs, assault rifles, and other equipment from them.
The Federal Security Cabinet announced this via a brief social media post, highlighting that the arrests were the result of raids conducted in Mazatlán, stemming from intelligence and investigative operations.

As a result, two individuals—alleged members of the aforementioned criminal cell—were taken into custody, and weaponry was seized from their possession.
Among the seized items were a Barrett rifle, doses of drugs, grenades, tactical gear, and a vehicle. A photograph shared by the Federal Security Cabinet shows additional assault rifles that were confiscated during the operation.
Personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) participated in the arrests.
The federal security cabinet has not provided further information nor issued a comprehensive statement regarding this arrest; consequently, additional details are expected to be released in the coming hours or days.
It is worth recalling that the “Los Chapitos” faction has been responsible for a surge in violence in certain regions of Sinaloa, stemming from its conflict with the “Los Mayos”—or “La Mayiza”—faction of the same Sinaloa Cartel.
This conflict is the result of a power struggle for leadership of the criminal group following the arrest of its leader, Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, in 2024.

Zambada García is currently standing trial in the United States on multiple charges related to drug trafficking, stemming from his role as a longtime leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. These charges include engaging in a criminal enterprise, drug trafficking, and money laundering, as well as conspiracy to commit murder and weapons possession.
“El Mayo” Zambada’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 18. The criminal leader had previously accepted a plea bargain with the U.S. government—an agreement that would allow him to avoid the maximum penalty, although a prison sentence exceeding 70 years is still anticipated.
U.S. authorities have emphasized that Zambada García will “die in prison”—a sentiment previously voiced by then-Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
