Jalisco’s Secretary of Security, Juan Pablo Hernández, announced that drone overflights have been detected at the state’s correctional facilities; consequently, authorities are currently reinforcing aerial surveillance specifically within Jalisco.
Drone overflights detected at Jalisco correctional facilities. Following the seizure of narcotics at the Puerto Vallarta correctional facility, Secretary Hernández reported the detection of overflights by unidentified drones.
As a result, authorities do not rule out the possibility that this constitutes a method through which organized crime groups are attempting to smuggle illicit substances into the prison.
“We’re detecting drone overflights with increasing frequency. Therefore, there is a possibility—specifically via a drone—that narcotics are being dropped into the facility. We don’t rule this out; given the altitudes at which these drones operate, addressing the issue is quite challenging.”
He added that authorities are working to acquire additional drones to conduct aerial surveillance across all correctional complexes, and are also seeking to procure a signal-jamming system capable of neutralizing these unidentified aerial devices.
“We have no prior record or confirmed evidence of any incident of this specific nature; however—and I reiterate this point—we are indeed observing an increasing number of overflights by unidentified drones across various correctional facilities.”
Finally, he clarified that the signal jammers previously installed at the correctional facilities are designed solely to block cellular phone signals.
