The young boy had gone with his father to a convenience store, where men arrived and set fire to the interior of the building.
This Sunday, Henry—a three-year-old boy who sustained severe burns over 85 percent of his body on Sunday, February 22—passed away. His injuries occurred amidst nationwide unrest following the killing of Nemesio Oseguera, known as “El Mencho.”
Reports indicate that the child, a native of the municipality of Valle de Chalco, died around 2:00 PM at the National Institute of Rehabilitation (INR) in Mexico City. He had been transferred there to receive specialized medical care immediately following the incident.
Updates regarding the child’s health status were kept confidential throughout his treatment due to the critical nature of his condition. According to family members, he remained sedated at all times and underwent several surgeries in an effort to save his life.
How Was He Injured?
Henry and his father had gone to a 3B chain store in the municipality of Valle de Chalco to buy some gelatin. However, just as they were about to pay, two men entered the premises and set the building on fire.
The flames engulfed the young boy, his father, and a homeless individual who attempted to extinguish the fire burning on the child’s body.
Four People Now Detained in This Case
Four individuals have now been detained in connection with these events: Miguel Ángel ‘N’, who allegedly handed bottles of fuel to other youths riding motorcycles to incite fires at various convenience stores; and Luis Antonio ‘N’—known as “El Negro”—who allegedly also participated in the incident.
Also captured were Edgar ‘N’—known as “Peluso”—and his 17-year-old brother; both have been formally charged and ordered to stand trial. Edgar ‘N’ and the two adults remain at the Chalco Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center, while the minor is being held at the Quinta del Bosque Social Rehabilitation Center.
**”Peluso” and His Brother Are Innocent, Say Relatives**
Relatives of Edgar ‘N’ and his minor brother have demanded justice and their release, asserting that they are innocent.
Blanca Esthela Duque, the mother of the accused, alleged that the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) detained them unjustly, noting that both men are gainfully employed—and, furthermore, that the minor recently underwent surgery on his leg.
In an interview with *MILENIO* on March 5, the woman reported various irregularities regarding the arrests. She explained that, initially, her husband, another of her sons, and her grandson were also detained on fabricated charges; additionally, she alleged that her youngest daughter was sexually harassed by two agents from the State Attorney’s Office who had entered their home to conduct a “search.”
“A large number of judicial officers arrived at my house—many agents from the Attorney’s Office barged into my home. They took my husband away, though I didn’t realize at the time that they had already detained my sons as well. They lured my son—the minor—inside under false pretenses, telling him that his father needed some medication, since my husband suffers from a heart condition.
“My son went inside with them, and about five minutes later, we heard him start screaming: ‘Mom! Mom! They’re trying to arrest me!'” she recalled.
