And now we turn to Manuel Azceéz in Sinaloa, where a brawl has been reported at the Aguarato prison, leaving several people dead. Is that right, Manuel? We’re listening. Go ahead. Good morning.
Good morning, Rubén. Indeed, a brawl that broke out this morning inside the Agoruto Penitentiary Center has left a preliminary death toll of seven people—seven inmates killed who… well, who lost their lives as a result of this incident.
Additionally, several inmates were injured. In a press release, the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat confirmed that the clash occurred within one of the penitentiary center’s housing units and that the situation was brought under control by custodial staff.
According to official information, officers from the State Preventive Police entered the facility to assist with containment efforts, while personnel from the National Guard and the Mexican Army reinforced security on the building’s exterior.
They remain stationed outside at this time. Authorities indicated that the affected housing unit has been secured and remains under guard to ensure the safety of the rest of the prison population.
Following the incident, the penitentiary center’s administration immediately notified investigative authorities as a precautionary measure and to facilitate security and investigative operations.
Authorities have suspended all visits scheduled for this Sunday at the penitentiary center. It has been a difficult morning; just minutes ago, we also received confirmation that a state police officer was assassinated.
This occurred in southern Culiacán following an armed attack. And so, security operations continue throughout the city. Yesterday was also a difficult day, marked by an attack on National Guard personnel in the Los Ángeles district.
Operations are ongoing, yet the violence persists. That is the latest information from Sinaloa. Is it known whether—given the commotion that took place—any officers from the security forces were injured?
As of now, there has been no confirmation of any injured officers—only inmates. That is the information that has been released by the Public Security Secretariat in a very brief statement shared on their social media channels.
Nor have they specified in which module the incident occurred; however, it has long been known that altercations have taken place there. After all, the war currently being waged on the outside—on the streets of Culiacán and throughout Sinaloa—is not alien to the Aguaro penitentiary center.
Inside, rival groups are clashing with one another, and several deaths have resulted from these conflicts. Well, Manuel, we will remain on alert for any updates and official figures released over the coming hours.
