Federal and local authorities in Quintana Roo carried out a “historic weapons seizure” in an operation that resulted in the arrest of Marcos Josué “N,” considered by federal authorities to be the main logistics operator for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), responsible for distributing weapons and tactical equipment in Benito Juárez, as well as in Puerto Morelos, Kantunilkín, and Isla Mujeres, the Mexican government’s Security Cabinet reported this Sunday.
Along with him, Ángel Roberto “N,” alias El Flaco, was also arrested. Both men are allegedly involved in drug trafficking and violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives.
According to the federal cabinet, during prevention and surveillance patrols, members of the Investigation Group of the State Secretariat of Citizen Security, in coordination with personnel from the Mexican Navy, observed a gray vehicle and a white vehicle parked on a public road.
“Two men were standing near the trunk of the gray vehicle. One of them took out a large, clear bag containing what appeared to be marijuana and handed it to the other. Upon noticing the police presence, both men ran toward the vehicles in an attempt to flee, but thanks to the swift intervention of the officers, they were apprehended on an unnamed avenue, approximately 60 meters from the Kukulcana business consulting firm in the municipality of Benito Juárez, where the corresponding operation took place,” the report states.
Inside the vehicles, authorities seized two handguns with magazines loaded with seven and 11 rounds, respectively; 32 rifles, all with magazines, one loaded with 56 rounds and another with 30; 12 additional handguns with magazines; 125 rifle magazines; two suppressors; four riot grenades and four chemical grenades; and 26 boxes of ammunition of various calibers, each containing 50 rounds. 17 boxes with 20 cartridges each; nine bulletproof vests; nine black T-shirts with the slogan “Deltas Q. Roo CJNG”; 15 black “Operativas Jaguar” caps; and six “Deltas Operativo Jaguar” patches.
Also, two large bags with suspected marijuana; 13 small bags with the same narcotic; 52 small bags with crystal meth; and 50 triangular bags with cocaine.
Additionally, five notebooks with notes, two backpacks, three plastic boxes, a cooler, a suitcase, four cell phones, a large case, a gray case, three drones (one with a controller and two batteries), two pairs of license plates from the state of Jalisco, and two vehicles: a gray Volkswagen T-Cross and a white Nissan Frontier.
The evidence, as well as the detainees, were turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking.
These actions are the result of the security task force, comprised of the SSC (Secretariat of Citizen Security), the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the National Guard, and the State Attorney General’s Office.
