In the United States, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera submitted two new filings to the Brooklyn Federal Court as part of a legal strategy seeking his release, potential deportation to Mexico, or changes to the conditions of his life sentence.
In the documents, the former crime boss insisted that procedural irregularities occurred during his trial, leading to his life sentence. He also claimed that visitation restrictions have hindered contact with his wife and daughters.
He requested that his health status be taken into account when reviewing his prison situation. The letters were sent from the maximum-security prison in Colorado, where he has been held since his 2017 extradition.
