And on this second anniversary of the criminal war in Sinaloa, there was further violence. Around 3:00 a.m., armed men entered a hotel in Mazatlán and murdered two men. One of the victims was identified as an active-duty National Guard member named Alfredo. The gunmen fled the scene.
Also in Mazatlán, men on a motorcycle fired shots near Federal Secondary School No. 5, causing panic among the students. No injuries were reported.
In Escuinapa, on Tuesday afternoon, gunmen murdered a 42-year-old woman; her body was found alongside a message left by a criminal group. The victim was identified as Gabriela. She is the eighth woman murdered in the state so far this September.
Meanwhile, in Abolato, Interim Governor Graciela Domínguez led a peace initiative, sending a message to the people of Sinaloa two years into this criminal conflict. “There are significant efforts underway; our priority is reclaiming our streets.
As we have said, there is work being done and progress has been made, though it has not yet been enough for citizens to feel completely safe. However, the effort is there, and we will never downplay any incident. These events demonstrate that comprehensive recovery plans are indeed possible.”
