Milton Morales Figueroa, coordinator of the Strategy, Tactics and Operations Unit of Mexico City’s Secretariat for Citizen Security (SSC), was murdered.
The official died after an attack in Coacalco, State of Mexico, informed the head of the SSC, Pablo Vázquez, through social networks.
He was attacked in front of a 3B store
Neighbors of the Acuales neighborhood reported a shooting this Sunday before noon. A man in his 40’s was shot and killed in front of a 3B store and two other people were injured, the man was identified as Milton Morales Figueroa.
According to witnesses, the officer was shot from two vehicles and was left lying on the spot, while his brother-in-law and another person were injured.
The victims were carrying out personal activities in the vicinity of a poultry store. After the attack, the vehicles escaped along Mario Colín Sánchez street.
Helicopters and more than 15 patrols searched for those involved.
Three Mexico City SSC Condor Group helicopters arrived in the area and flew over the area in an attempt to find the whereabouts of the alleged perpetrators, but were unsuccessful.
Some 15 patrols of the State and Municipal Police also arrived at the street where the shooting took place, and mounted an operation.
Helicopters flew overhead, while a man identified as Milton’s brother-in-law and another person were taken to an air ambulance of the Condor Group for transfer to a hospital in Mexico City.
The homicide site was guarded to preserve the evidence and while personnel from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and experts arrived for the corresponding procedures to order the transfer of the body to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).
Operations were carried out in the area to try to find the whereabouts of the presumed murderers of the civil servant.
Who was Milton Morales Figueroa?
Milton Morales was a commander of the SSC and headed investigations such as the attack against journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva. He also coordinated and participated in several operations to capture kidnappers and murderers in the state.
Residents were dismayed by the deployment of police units and helicopters after the shooting that took place and in which the official was killed.
“There will be no impunity”, assures Pablo Vázquez
Vázquez assured that in this and other cases handled by the agency there will be no impunity, as they will work with the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office and the State Security Secretariat to arrest and bring to justice those responsible.
“I regret to inform that, as a result of a cowardly attack that occurred in Coacalco, State of Mexico, my colleague and friend Chief Commissioner Milton Morales Figueroa lost his life,” wrote the head of the capital’s SSC.
He sent his condolences to Morales Figueroa’s relatives, while assuring them that they can count on the secretariat and “we will not rest until we arrest the assailants.”
“We will not take a step back; we will redouble our efforts in our fight for peace and security.”
