Elements of the Investigative Police (PDI) of the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office, arrested Juan “N,” alias “El Seven,” a man identified as a faction leader of the La Familia Michoacana criminal group, who also had an outstanding arrest warrant. His capture was reported by the Attorney General’s Office on January 27, 2026; he was subsequently taken to the Southern Penitentiary to await a determination of his legal status.
“El Seven” was apprehended at a property in the municipality of Amecameca de Juárez, State of Mexico, for his alleged involvement in attempted homicide. Investigations indicate that this individual is also linked to high-impact crimes in the State of Mexico, Mexico City, and Morelos.

Criminal Group: La Familia Michoacana
La Familia Michoacana has established networks of economic control and violence in territories of the State of Mexico, particularly in southern municipalities. According to official reports, the criminal group has gained control over the distribution of basic goods, construction materials, and services, operating through extortion, protection rackets, and physical or moral threats against small business owners.
State and federal authorities have conducted various operations in which they have documented the seizure of properties allegedly used as safe houses, surveillance points, or for illicit activities, as well as the confiscation of farms, ranches, warehouses, and other properties.
The group’s actions significantly affect public safety; furthermore, these practices directly impact the cost of living, driving up the prices of essential goods and deterring reporting due to fear of retaliation. Two of the most visible figures in this expansion into the State of Mexico are the brothers Johnny “El Pez” Hurtado Olascoaga and José Alfredo “El Fresa” Hurtado Olascoaga, identified as leaders of La Nueva Familia Michoacana.
