Officials from the United States Department of State informed ZETA, after 2 p.m. on July 25, 2024, that Ismael Zambada García, El Mayo, had been arrested in El Paso, Texas, United States.
The arrest would have been at one of the private airports in the border city of El Paso; without providing further information, they commented that at this time the Mexican leader of the Sinaloa cartel is being prosecuted, and that the capture has been a surprise for the North American authorities; however, it has been revealed that special operations were carried out in that state starting this week.
Zambada García is one of the Mexican cartel bosses most wanted by the United States, the Anti-Narcotics Agency of that country and the State Department, offer a reward of 20 million dollars to anyone who provides information that leads to the capture of the Sinaloan.
El Mayo was co-founder, with Joaquín Guzmán Loera, El Chapo, imprisoned in the United States, of the Sinaloa cartel, and has been considered the most unpunished capo in Mexico, he had not been captured since the beginning of his criminal career at the end of the eighties, while the Sinaloa mafia expanded its criminal power both in Mexico and in the United States.
Several District Courts in North America have initiated investigations against Zambada García, for leading a criminal organization, conspiracy, homicide, money laundering, manufacturing and distribution of drugs. In recent years, accusations against the Sinaloa cartel have increased in the United States, for the production, distribution, trafficking and sale of fentanyl.
At the moment, United States authorities confirmed to ZETA that they have initiated the prosecution of the detainee, Ismael Zambada García, in El Paso, Texas.
