Residents of at least four rural communities in the municipality of Moris, in the mountainous region of Chihuahua, reported a series of attacks involving drones laden with explosives on Thursday night, in what is believed to be an offensive by organized crime. The incidents reportedly occurred in the towns of San José de la Trompa, El Zapote, El Frijolar, and Cieneguita de Rodríguez.
Through messages posted on social media and messaging apps, residents reported that the attacks left multiple people injured and others presumed dead, although no official death toll has yet been issued by authorities.
Among those affected, they indicated, were elderly adults and children who were unable to reach safety in time due to the intensity of the explosions.
Testimonies collected by this outlet point to the criminal group known as “Los Salazar,” the operational arm of the Sinaloa Cartel in the region, as the alleged perpetrators of the attacks. The attacks reportedly occurred in a coordinated manner, with the use of explosive devices launched from drones, an increasingly common tactic in clashes between rival cartels for control of territory.
Residents also reported that, for several days, they had been alerting authorities about the presence of armed men in the area and the threat of possible clashes. They even mentioned having requested urgent support from federal forces and security commanders, including the Federal Undersecretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, without receiving an effective response.
As of press time, neither the State Public Security Secretariat nor the National Guard had issued official information on these events. The State Attorney General’s Office has also not confirmed the number of victims or the opening of an investigation.
Meanwhile, the affected families remain in a state of uncertainty, some of them taking refuge in forested areas or displaced to neighboring municipalities for fear of further attacks.
