Elements of the Specialized Unit to Combat Kidnapping confront alleged kidnappers, freeing several migrants in Tierra Blanca, Veracruz.
A rescue operation carried out by the Specialized Unit to Combat Kidnapping (UECS) in the municipality of Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, ended in an armed confrontation on the afternoon of Friday, June 14.
The operation resulted in the release of several migrants who had been kidnapped and held in a safe house in the Tierra Blanca el Viejo neighborhood.
Elements of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Veracruz, after conducting intelligence work, located the place where the kidnappers were holding the foreigners captive.
Upon arrival at the site, the agents were met with gunfire, which provoked a confrontation that caused alarm among the inhabitants of the area and the immediate closure of nearby businesses and homes.
In response to the aggression, the officers requested reinforcements. Fuerza Civil, elements of the National Guard and the Mexican Army came to the scene in support, managing to neutralize the criminals and free at least five migrants. The exchange of gunfire, which lasted more than twenty minutes, was heard in several parts of the city, causing panic among the population.
During the operation, a chase was carried out by the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP). A sedan vehicle was pursued as far as Agrarista Street, near the train tracks. The chase, which extended for several blocks, resulted in several shots being fired, hitting houses and parked vehicles.
The security deployment in Tierra Blanca continues, with both ground and aerial operations, in search of more people involved in the kidnapping. Authorities have indicated that the perpetrators were part of a cell of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. So far, a strong police presence is being maintained in the area.
