Ramón Arellano Félix, one of the main operatives of the Tijuana Cartel and staunch rival of Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, was killed by gunshots by police officers, after he refused to be arrested while at the Mazatlán Carnival.
According to journalist Anabel Hernández, ‘El Doctor’ allegedly attempted to assassinate Vicente Zambada Niebla on multiple occasions, as well as ‘Rey’, and was the mastermind behind the death of one of ‘El Mayo’s’ brothers, although it later became known that it was his brother-in-law who fled to the United States.
“In 2002, while the train ran from south to north and from north to south, ‘El Mayo’ took care of erasing his bitter enemy from the map, using ‘El Chapo’. Ramón Arellano Félix had tried to assassinate ‘Vicentillo’ several times, he had destroyed Lety’s family and killed his friend Vicente in Cancun. It was time to settle the score,” reads the book ‘El Traidor’ by journalist Anabel Hernández.

And it’s not just that he was accused of murdering Vicente Zambada García, he also ended up with the parents of his wife Lety, who died in the same way at the Mazatlán Carnival, he was always considered a dangerous and treacherous person.
“My brother told me that Chapo was going to help him with his people to kill him in Mazatlan, Ramon Arellano Felix had killed friends of ‘Chapo’ and our friends, he had killed our brother Vicente, he was very dangerous,” Rey said, according to Anabel’s work.

On February 10, 2002, Ramón was shot and killed when a policeman spotted him, told him to stop, and he disobeyed. The officer then began shooting at him multiple times until he ceased to exist. Unofficially, it is mentioned that the uniformed officer who killed him was working for ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
“El Mayo” told “Rey” how they killed Ramón, it happened at the Carnival of Mazatlán, the same place where two years prior they had killed the parents of his partner Lety. “He told me they located him in Mazatlán and the police arrested him, but Ramón didn’t stop, he tried to escape when he was right in front of a hotel. They shot him, and he was left dead with a bullet in his neck.” The policeman who stopped Ramón was working for “El Chapo.” The Fox government did not confirm the death of the Arellano Félix clan leader until a month later, but “El Mayo” knew right away. At the same time, another war began,” the journalist wrote.
