Nestor Isidro Perez Salas, aka “El Nini,” 32, was extradited from Mexico to the United States on May 25, 2024. A chief enforcer and security head for “Los Chapitos”—sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán—Perez Salas faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking, kidnapping, firearm possession, money laundering, and murder, detailed by the U.S. Department of Justice.
At his arraignment in the Southern District of New York, prosecutors accused “El Nini” of murdering Alexander Meza León and eight others, including a 13-year-old, in Durango in late October 2023. He faces 10 criminal charges, including fentanyl trafficking and the murder of a DEA informant.
Perez Salas allegedly led a violent group providing security for “Los Chapitos” and was involved in extensive criminal activities from 2012 to 2021, including drug manufacturing and distribution, torture, and murder of law enforcement agents and rival cartel members.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland praised the cooperation with Mexican authorities, emphasizing the commitment to holding cartel members accountable for their crimes. Perez Salas was arrested in Culiacán on November 22, 2023, and extradited to the U.S., where his charges will be formally read on May 30, 2024.
Hours later, Perez Salas appeared with the number 17027-511 in the record of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York.
