One of Joaquín Guzmán Loera’s eldest sons has managed to stay out of the spotlight for decades.
Joaquín Guzmán López, one of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s sons, will plead guilty to at least one drug trafficking charge at his next court appearance in the Northern District Court of Illinois in Chicago, according to information obtained by Ángel Hernández for MILENIO.
“El Güero Moreno,” as Guzmán López is known, is one of the offspring who took the reins of the criminal empire built by El Chapo after his third capture and extradition to the United States. Joaquín and his brother Ovidio, along with their half-brothers Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, forged the Los Chapitos faction.
Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar are currently on the U.S. government’s priority target list. Ovidio, for his part, pleaded guilty to four counts of organized crime and drug trafficking on July 11.
In contrast to this branch of the family, there is one of El Chapo’s sons who, apparently, stayed away from drug trafficking activities. Who is this man? MILENIO tells you.
El Chapo’s son who has remained in the shadows
In August 1977, El Chapo Guzmán married Alejandrina María Salazar Hernández, also from Sinaloa. He was 20 years old at the time, and she was 19, according to data provided by the U.S. Treasury Department. The couple had three sons and one daughter: Iván Archivaldo, Jesús Alfredo, César, and Alejandrina Giselle Guzmán Salazar.
Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo have been the subject of much discussion. Narcocorridos (drug ballads) recount their activities as criminal leaders, and various U.S. agencies have identified them as part of the mechanism that has allowed the Sinaloa Cartel to expand its operations internationally. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to their capture.

In contrast, César Guzmán Salazar has maintained such a low profile that even his birthdate and appearance remain a mystery. In his book, El Chapo: The Untold Story of the World’s Most Infamous Drug Lord, journalist Noah Hurowitz reiterates that he is the brother of Jesús Alfredo and Iván Archivaldo, but doesn’t specify when he was born.
One of the few known facts about this descendant of El Chapo was revealed in an investigation by journalist Susana Zavala, who confirmed César Guzmán’s involvement as a businessman in Jalisco.
According to documents from the General Secretariat of the Government of Jalisco, revealed by Zavala in 2019, César Guzmán was the majority shareholder of Jdoblecg Constructores S.A. de C.V., a real estate company registered in Guadalajara, of which there is no trace.
It was also revealed that in 2000, César and his sister Alejandrina allegedly assumed equal ownership of Gisell Artículos Escolares y de Oficina S.A. de C.V., a company involved in the sale of stationery that has also ceased operations.
And what about Alejandrina Giselle?
Like her brother César, Alejandrina Giselle Guzmán has tried to stay out of the media spotlight. In December 2012, CNN confirmed that El Chapo’s daughter had reached an agreement with U.S. judicial authorities.
At that time, she was released from prison after pleading guilty to possessing a visa with false information. She was in custody for just over two months and, according to information provided by her local team to the aforementioned media outlet, she was pregnant at the time of her arrest. Presumably, she traveled to the neighboring country intending to give birth there.
In addition to the above, it is known that in January 2020 she married Édgar Cázares, nephew of Blanca Margarita Cázares Salazar, alias La Emperatriz, whom the United States identified as part of the financial network serving Ismael El Mayo Zambada.

Little-known fact, César was at the kidnapping dinner held at La Leche in Puerto Vallarta.
Was he so low key that they didnt bother kidnapping him? I hope you had a good Thanksgiving hermano! Be safe out there.
They didn’t recognize him at first. Once they figured out he was a legit engineer/architect living in Jalisco, and not someone involved in anything, they backed off. He was just in Vallarta celebrating — wrong place, wrong moment.
A while after that incident, I went to PV myself. I booked the same Marriott suite where IAG stayed and talked to the staff. That’s how I learned exactly how they moved and how they spent their time there.
Hope you had a solid Thanksgiving, hermano. Cuídate.
