In Baja California, three municipal police officers from Tecate were arrested by state authorities for their alleged ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel; they were accused of tipping off organized crime members about raids and law enforcement operations.
State Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez reported that the officers would warn criminals before interventions took place; consequently, authorities would find drugs and weapons but no suspects to arrest.
The investigation stemmed from the capture of five hitmen in Tecate linked to recent homicides in the municipality. Information implicating the officers also emerged following those arrests.
The police officers will also be investigated for the murder of State Attorney General’s Office agent Cristian Alfredo Sandoval, which occurred last Friday. Among those detained is a member of the force.
That is correct; so far, two have been arrested, and we have a third location surrounded. Additionally, following the arrest of the five hitmen I mentioned, two officers began filing for medical leave.
The arrest of those five hitmen—who were involved in recent violent homicides in Tecate—triggered a significant amount of information. During the subsequent raids we conducted, we unfortunately detected the involvement of Tecate municipal police officers in very serious matters involving criminal conspiracy and other offenses. Yes, there was direct—not indirect, but direct—involvement with criminal groups.
