The U.S. government has filed charges against Carlos Páez Pereda—alias “Carlitos” or “Carlitos Rugrats,” an alleged high-level operative for the Sinaloa Cartel—for narco-terrorism and providing material support to terrorism, stemming from his alleged involvement in trafficking fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine into the United States.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Páez Pereda is part of the faction led by Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada; he allegedly manages a drug production and distribution network and coordinates the transport of shipments from Sinaloa to Tijuana.
He is also accused of employing a group of hitmen known as “Los Rugrats” to carry out murders, kidnappings, and acts of violence, while also supporting “Los Mayos” in their conflict with “Los Chapitos.”
The indictment and a Department of Justice post on the social media platform X released images of various weapons that Páez Pereda allegedly shared on his own social media accounts—images that are no longer available online.
After reviewing the available online images and references, *El Universal* concluded that the weaponry shown appears to consist of Colt 1911-style pistols and SCAR-style assault rifles.
The photos also show pistols that appear to be customized with a gold-like finish and gems arranged to spell out his surname alongside the image of a hat. One of them also seems to feature the cartoon character associated with his nickname, along with the word “Rugrats.”
According to available information, he also shared images of stacks of U.S. dollars on social media, seemingly to flaunt the extravagant lifestyle linked to his involvement with the criminal organization.
