After an armed attack left three people injured near the Morelos Market—and another incident resulted in the death of a woman in San Pablo Xochimehuacan—authorities from all three levels of government have reinforced their presence in the northern zone of the city through the “Puebla Segura” (Secure Puebla) operation.
This strategy involves ground patrols, aerial surveillance, and inspection checkpoints in various sectors deemed to be high-priority areas.
**Over 180 Personnel Secure Critical Points in the Capital**
The mobilization involves more than 180 personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of National Defense, the National Guard, the State Police, and the Municipal Police. These officers are carrying out coordinated actions to prevent crime and bolster institutional presence in neighborhoods, auxiliary districts, and supply centers where violent incidents have been recorded in recent months.
Raymundo Garduño Hernández, Director of the State Preventive Police, reported that the patrols include community engagement initiatives and targeted surveillance at specific locations throughout the state capital.
Among the sectors currently under intervention are San José Los Cerritos, Bosques de San Sebastián, La Ciénega, 10 de Mayo, and Bosques de Santa Anita.
Additionally, the deployment covers the auxiliary districts of La Resurrección and San Pablo Xochimehuacan, as well as the Morelos and La Acocota markets—locations that have received special attention from security agencies due to various criminal incidents recorded there recently.
**Disputes Over Drug Dealing and Recent Attacks**
The operation was launched following an armed assault at the Morelos Market that left two men and one woman injured; during that incident, two individuals suspected of committing the crime were also taken into custody.
Regarding this specific case, video footage emerged this Wednesday—captured by a citizen—showing how local residents were forced to take cover upon hearing the gunshots fired by the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, just this past Tuesday, a woman lost her life after being attacked in San Pablo Xochimehuacan by assailants who managed to flee the scene. State authorities have previously indicated that a dispute exists in the area between criminal groups engaged in street-level drug trafficking—a situation that has sparked various episodes of violence and keeps one of the capital’s most important markets under constant surveillance.
