The purpose of this project is to create a digital dome to control unmanned aircraft
As part of the collaboration agreements between the State Government and the United States, the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) is reportedly considering requesting a donation from the US government for more modern anti-drone equipment. This equipment consists of creating an invisible dome that can be used to control unmanned aircraft operated by organized crime.
This was announced by the head of the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE), Gilberto Loya Chávez, who stated that the equipment they currently have is unidirectional, meaning it functions as a kind of cannon and must be aimed at the aircraft.
“Right now, we’re already working on exploration, whether possible, whether through acquisition or donations, primarily with the United States, with whom we’ve been discussing anti-drone weapons, but also other types. Not only the anti-drone weapons you’ve seen we have, which are like large rifles, but also domed ones, which allow us to generate coverage or protection for the immediate airspace,” he indicated.
He emphasized that they currently have 15 cannon-type devices, which must be operated manually by the drone and anti-drone teams, which makes securing these aircraft a little more complicated.
“When we started the Sentinel Platform project, we anticipated that drones would be used as weapons. In this case, around 6 or 7 years ago, if I’m not mistaken, they tried to do something like this in Tijuana with a drone, throwing a grenade with which they managed to attack, if I’m not mistaken, the Secretary of Public Security, and in that situation, we anticipated this,” he commented.
Loya Chávez commented that upon learning of this attack against the then-chief of the Tijuana municipal police, they considered this type of equipment. “That’s why the Sentinel Platform considered acquiring 15 anti-drone devices,” he noted.
“At the time, someone asked me if the issue wasn’t too futuristic, and look, unfortunately, the matter has been advancing very rapidly, especially in how criminal groups have been equipping themselves against the Mexican State itself,” he said.
The municipalities where attacks with this type of aircraft have been recorded, whether against security forces or criminal groups, and without confirming any direct attacks against civilians, are Guadalupe and Calvo.
