Twelve individuals were traveling in a Chevrolet Suburban and a sports Audi; the Suburban carried makeshift ladders on its roof, presumably intended for scaling the border wall.
Officers from the State Secretariat of Public Security (SSPE) and the Detective Group conducted a major operation near the banks of the Rio Grande this Friday afternoon.
State police located and detained a group of alleged human smugglers—known locally as *polleros*—as they were traveling in two vehicles near the intersection of Cuatro Siglos Boulevard and Antonio J. Bermúdez Avenue.
Officers signaled for a gold Chevrolet Suburban and a gray sports Audi to stop; the vehicles were occupied by approximately 12 individuals. The Suburban was carrying several makeshift ladders on its roof, presumably to be used to scale the border wall and facilitate the crossing of migrants.
A large-scale deployment was carried out across the area, and paramedics arrived at the scene to provide support and examine the detainees, most of whom were young men. It is currently unknown if any migrants are among those detained, as the SSPE is in the process of securing the scene and gathering all necessary information.
It was reported that the 12 individuals would be turned over to investigative authorities so that inquiries into the case could proceed. The SSPE is expected to release official information in the coming hours regarding this significant operation, which triggered a major police mobilization in the northern part of Ciudad Juárez.
