Culiacán, Sinaloa—The execution of Halexy Guadalupe, a federal agent with the Secretariat of Public Security (SSPC), wasn’t random. It was precise, calculated, and brazen—a message aimed at the heart of Mexico’s federal government.
Journalist Anabel Hernández, breaking her silence 48 hours after the December 18 killing, labeled it a “surgical operation” orchestrated by the Sinaloa Cartel, specifically Los Chapitos. The attack in the Villas del Río neighborhood of Culiacán, Sinaloa, was no ordinary crime—it was a provocation, a warning, and possibly a declaration of war.
“This wasn’t a random murder. It was a clear affront, a deliberate provocation,” Hernández said during a security analysis on Aristegui en Vivo. “Organized crime doesn’t make moves like this without purpose. This was planned down to the smallest detail. The question is, what message were they sending?”
For those within Mexico’s security apparatus, the implications are chilling. “They are showing they can kill whoever they want, whenever they want. It’s a direct warning to every agent out there risking their life,” Hernández added.

Los Chapitos or El Mochomito?
Initial reports tied the killing to Los Chapitos, the Guzmán Salazar brothers who lead a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. However, a new angle emerged, implicating Jesús Alfredo Beltrán Guzmán, alias El Mochomito. A cousin of the Guzmán Salazar brothers, El Mochomito leads his own splinter faction of the Beltrán Leyva Organization.
“If this was El Mochomito acting with Los Chapitos’ blessing, we’re seeing a new level of escalation—direct attacks on federal forces,” Hernández warned. “But if this was unauthorized, it could spark punishment from Los Chapitos. Either way, it signals a shift in the cartel’s strategy.”
Journalist María Idalia Gómez echoed these sentiments at the security roundtable. “This was no accident. It was a clear and deliberate message to the federal government.”

A Day of Violence in Culiacán
The murder unfolded in broad daylight. At 4:00 p.m. on December 18, Halexy Guadalupe was ambushed by men on motorcycles in the Villas del Río neighborhood. Despite his attempts to escape, the attackers cornered and killed him.
Omar García Harfuch, head of the SSPC, confirmed the assassination via social media. “A colleague from the Security Secretariat’s investigation team lost his life. This incident will not go unpunished, and those responsible will be arrested,” he wrote.
But reports suggest that Guadalupe may have unknowingly crossed paths with Los Chapitos on the day of his murder. Journalist Luis Chaparro revealed that an internal SSPC intelligence report stated that Guadalupe had been driving through an area where a “person of interest” connected to Los Chapitos was present. Whether he was targeted for this encounter remains unclear.

Mica’s Analysis: The Bigger Picture
If El Mochomito is confirmed as the intellectual author of this attack, it represents a major escalation in Mexico’s cartel wars. For years, Los Chapitos avoided direct attacks on federal forces. This killing could mark a shift in their approach—or an act of defiance from El Mochomito against his more powerful cousins.
In either case, the message is loud and clear: no one is untouchable, not even federal agents. In Culiacán, where the Sinaloa Cartel rules with impunity, the murder of a government official is less about the individual and more about what they represent—a system the cartels want to dismantle piece by piece.
For Mexico’s security forces, the killing of Halexy Guadalupe is a stark reminder of the dangers they face in a war where their enemies seem to have no limits.

Why would they want that heat
The Chapitos are sending a clear message: stop the heat against them. This act was a warning to anyone defying their authority—no one is untouchable, and they can reach you anytime, anywhere.
I wish I could read Anabel’s reporting in English.
Me too! She would have a huge English audience.
Let her know!
I haven’t reached out to her directly, but she reads our site and even referenced my Mini Lic article in an interview. It made me realize that, with Sol’s help, my little Cartel Insider project is making a bigger impact than I ever imagined.
The book El Traidor for sure
I don’t think there’s an English version
There was a preorder on Amazon for the English version, but it never was generated.
Mica:
In Tijuana, Mayito flew in December 17th, escorted to Agua Caliente casino by local police/federal/state who work for Aquiles crew
He met with Flaquito in a room at the casino and SEDENA and FESC hit the casino hours later and went person to person looking for them by they were gone
Who knows what the fuck really happened
Hi J.
A reliable source on AFO mentioned this on Monday. The angle I was given is for MF to use the routes owned by Flaquito. If MF reached out (which I believe he did), he would meet Flaquito on his turf out of respect. The biggest issue I have is Aquiles and Flaquito have major beef.
ZETA ran with a detailed version. Flaquito has shown he’s willing to deal with anyone again, but hard to see why and how they trust him.
Flaquito wouldn’t meet outside of TJ, unless it’s Cancun or something, but it shows something that Mayito would go there. That’s desperation or confidence.
He has Aquiles and Rana holding him down, but if he gets picked up by the FESC or SEDENA, all bets are off.
Thanks, I just found it.
