The municipal landfill in Culiacán was deliberately set on fire early Thursday, according to reports filed with local authorities. Firefighters responded to the scene and were working to bring the blaze under control.
Authorities believe the arson was intended as a diversion, meant to draw security forces away while other criminal activities were carried out elsewhere. Agents who arrived at the site said the fire appears linked to a criminal faction using distraction tactics.
The landfill—known locally as El Basurón—is located in the Bicentenario neighborhood.
Beneath the Surface
We all know who did this. Ask yourself one thing: what do the Chapitos gain by setting El Basurón on fire inside their own territory? They don’t. Arson has become a signature tactic of Mayiza. If Mayito Flaco can’t win a war, he burns the plaza—sometimes quite literally.
Don’t take my word for it. Just days ago, there was an attempt to set the Circus Casino on fire—same scenario, same territory—but it was stopped in time. I have photos and video of more than a dozen fires from this week alone, which I’ll publish in an upcoming What’s on My Phone post.

Those Mayozetas have hit a low low standard now, what’s next set fire to local marisqueros stands.
They just bombed a house within an hour.
