More Than 80 Armed Civilians Confront State Police in Guadalupe y Calvo

Seeing their strength and weapons outnumbered, the police retreated to Parral and requested support to carry out an operational deployment strategy.

This morning, members of the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE), during shift changes at the Guadalupe y Calvo police station, had a confrontation with more than 80 armed civilians. Finding themselves outnumbered and outgunned they retreated back to Parral, where the state police station is located.

The members were traveling to Guadalupe y Calvo from Parral aboard official vehicles, seeing a small group of armed civilians in sight, confirmed the agency’s spokesperson, Jorge Armendáriz.

“The new personnel, while heading to Guadalupe y Calvo, managed to see, on a dirt road leading to the community of La Catedral, a gray Jeep with armed civilians on board. There were three men with firearms, another man with a radio communication system, and a woman with electronic devices with which they were taking videos and photographs.”

When they tried to intercept them, these individuals requested support from more armed civilians, and more than 20 vehicles and nearly 80 armed men arrived on the scene. Lacking the firepower and manpower to confront them, the state police officers chose to withdraw.

“They retreated once again to the municipality of Parral to avoid being victims of an attack of this nature; once they withdrew, they requested support from the authorities,” he said.

Consequently, they immediately developed a major operational deployment strategy in Guadalupe y Calvo, both aerial and ground, using drones from the General Logistics Directorate and the BOI (Interagency Operations Base), respectively.

“So far, we haven’t had the opportunity to make contact with them (BOI cell). We are still searching for them, and obviously, we have identified some of the trucks that approached with our comrades, and we hope to be able to provide results soon,” he concluded.
