Authorities recovered thousands of explosive components, more than a ton of blasting material, and marijuana seeds from three abandoned vehicles—all of which had been reported stolen.
The discovery was made on the afternoon of August 28 during a joint security operation involving the State Public Security Secretariat, the State Investigation Agency, the National Guard, and the Mexican Army.
While patrolling remote roads and areas of interest, officers used a State Police aircraft to spot three vehicles that appeared to have been abandoned. Once on the ground, they confirmed the vehicles were a Chevrolet Tahoe stolen in Arizona, another Tahoe stolen in Chihuahua, and a Jeep Rubicon stolen in Texas.
Inside, officers found:
• 6,324 high-explosive components
• 1.1 metric tons of blasting agent
• 1,710 meters of initiation and detonation material
• 5,234 electric detonators
• Approximately 3,200 marijuana seeds
The area was secured, and additional personnel were deployed across the region to search for those responsible.
The seized materials remain under police custody while military ordnance specialists evaluate, handle, and potentially destroy the explosives before the case is formally turned over to the appropriate authorities.
