According to intelligence reports from the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE), the two clandestine workshops used for the installation and assembly of handmade armor that were dismantled in Ojinaga had been operated for some time by the criminal group La Línea.
Through detective work authorities were able to track the activity of these two shops which culminated in the arrest of two people who worked there. In addition, nine vehicles with a theft report were also seized.
Gilberto Loya Chavez, in the mews conference that the SSPE offers every Monday, prior to the inter-institutional security meeting, highlighted that two more vehicles were already fully equipped with the essentials to be Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles (IAFV). Both were ready to be used out in the streets and dirt roads.
Loya Chavez emphasized that these types of workshops were covert, they didn’t have the necessary permits, given that these types of activities require specifications regulated by the federal government.
Both workshops, located in the unpopulated area of Ojinaga, had been operating for some time, and law enforcement priority was to locate and dismantle them.
All of the seized vehicles were taken to the state capital for the corresponding investigation.
