The state of Guanajuato ended 2025 as the entity with the highest number of intentional homicides, with 2,539 cases, despite the state having a 10-month downward trend in this crime.
Marcela Figueroa, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, announced that in Guanajuato, as well as in 26 other states of the country, there is a decrease in this crime, but Guanajuato continues to register the highest percentage of cases.
“At the close of the year that just ended, seven federal entities concentrated 50.5 percent of the total intentional homicides in the country. In first place is Guanajuato, which represented 10.9 percent of the total homicides nationwide,” said Marcela Figueroa.
After Guanajuato, Chihuahua follows with 7.7 percent, in third place Baja California with 7.3 percent, in fourth place Sinaloa with 7.1 percent, followed by the State of Mexico with 6.5 percent, in sixth place Guerrero with 5.6 percent, and Michoacán in seventh place with 5.4 percent.
Marcela Figueroa acknowledged the progress that Guanajuato has made in reducing this crime, since in September 2024 the daily average of homicides was 9.43, while in December 2025 it was 4.87.
“There is a significant reduction, especially visible from February 2025 onwards, so there have now been 10 months of constant decrease in this trend in Guanajuato. This is a 62 percent decrease in the daily average of homicides after Guanajuato reached up to 12.7 homicides per day (in February),” Figueroa stated.
However, in December, Guanajuato also ranked first in intentional homicides with 151 victims, representing 9 percent of the national total.
