Federal Police elements of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) conducted a raid on a residence in the municipality of Ixtlahuacán del Río, Jalisco, where they found a tiger, a jaguar, war weapons and drugs.
According to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), elements of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), when driving along a dirt road in the community known as Las Trancas, saw a home with cyclone fencing and heard loud roaring of felines, which is why they reported the incident to ministerial authorities to be able to carry out a home search.
After obtaining the judicial order and entering the home, “a tiger cub, a jaguar, three vehicles, three long guns, 14 magazines, 199 cartridges, 21 vests, five bags of marijuana, 14 ballistic plates, and seven helmets were secured”.
In the same municipality, another operation was carried out by the armed forces after receiving a citizen complaint that armed individuals were in a building in the town of San Antonio de los Vázquez.
In a statement, the FGR delegation in Jalisco stated that when the Mexican Army units arrived at the scene, they observed a person with a firearm, who, upon seeing the federal authority, entered a dwelling and managed to escape.
Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office stated that Mexican soldiers observed inside a building a long gun and presumably drugs, so they reported it to the Federal Public Ministry to request a search warrant.
After obtaining the warrant, elements of the FMP of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) entered the house with the help of specialized experts from the FGR and military personnel, where they found a long gun, five magazines, fifteen cartridges; two tactical vests; two bags containing marijuana; a plastic device with the appearance of a short firearm.
Just like 97 wrappers of alleged cocaine, a long gun-type shotgun, and 742 wrappers containing a granulated substance that appears to be methamphetamine, a car, and two motorcycles.
The FGR did not mention the exotic animals found but did open an investigation folder for the crime of illicit possession of wildlife and whatever results from that.
The MPF (Public Ministry of the Federation) shared photos of the property and some clues about the location, where a patch with the initials CJNG (Jalisco New Generation Cartel) can be seen.
These seizures were made only four days after federal authorities made a significant seizure in another municipality in Jalisco, where they also seized various wild animals.
It was a raid on a home in the Jamay municipality, which is under the control of the organization of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, leader of the also known as “Four Letter Cartel.”
According to the investigation file, elements of the Sedena were doing a surveillance tour around the municipality when they spotted the property with different wild animals.
After reporting to the ministerial authorities, who obtained the search warrant, a Bengal tiger, an albino tiger, and five jaguars were secured.
“The animals were put at the disposal of the Public Ministry of Forestry (MPF), which will continue with the corresponding investigation folder, for the crime of illicit possession of wild fauna and whatever else results,” reported the Office of the Attorney General (FGR) on December 22nd.
So far, federal authorities have not reported whether these raids are coincidences or if a series of searches is being conducted to arrest a criminal leader, as it happened with Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, alias El Nini, one of the principal security officers of Los Chapitos from the Sinaloa Cartel, who days before his arrest, which took place on November 22, ministerial and military personnel carried out several property seizures where there were also various exotic animals.
