Allegations Against a CJNG Leader
Arturo Padilla Hernández, known as ‘El Tilico,’ a reputed leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Aguascalientes, has been formally charged for threatening journalist María Martínez Guardado. This development underscores the dangerous overlap of criminal intimidation and media freedom in Mexico.
Legal Proceedings Unfold
In a significant legal proceeding, District Judge Orlando Iñiguez Delgadillo decided to link Padilla Hernández to the process based on testimonies affirming the threats against Guardado. This move comes after reports in February 2023 alleged that officials from the State Attorney General of Aguascalientes were protecting members of the CJNG, particularly ‘El Tilico.’

Journalist’s Courageous Expose
Martínez Guardado had exposed potential collusion between the CJNG and state officials in a detailed report titled “Drug trafficking, corruption, and impunity, cancer deeply rooted in the Ministerial of Aguascalientes.” The report, which included testimonies from sources like ‘Juana,’ shed light on the entrenched issues of corruption and impunity within the state.

The Arrest and Background of ‘El Tilico’
Reports indicate ‘El Tilico’ was arrested in July in Zacatecas for multiple criminal charges. He is known to operate in the Rincón de Romos municipality, and his arrest marks a significant blow to the CJNG’s operations in the area. The ongoing conflict between the CJNG and the Sinaloa Cartel, particularly in Aguascalientes, highlights the volatile and dangerous nature of cartel activity in Mexico.

Public Declaration of Control
In February 2023, a cell of the CJNG made a bold statement of intent through a video, declaring their control over various areas of Aguascalientes and asserting their dominance. This act of public intimidation demonstrates the cartel’s strategy of using fear and show of force to assert their presence.

The Bigger Picture: CJNG’s Nationwide Influence
The CJNG’s influence extends across 21 states in Mexico, as reported by the DEA. The ongoing battle for supremacy, especially in the ‘Triangle of Terror’ encompassing parts of Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Aguascalientes, underlines the widespread and deep-rooted challenges of cartel violence in the country.

Good evening everyone. Silly question. What does TILICO mean? Is it a slang ? Also I also saw another character called TÍSICO. I know all our spanish countries have different definitions.
From Sol: Tisico is sort of like an anorexic person. Someone that is just too skinny. The other IDK.
I’ve been reading this blog since Sol came on board. Excellent coverage.
A sincere question…do you think this madness will ever stop?
And if you do, how could that happen?
