A man was arrested as he was driving a tractor-trailer headed to Mexico City; he claimed he wasn’t carrying any cargo
Agents from the National Defense Secretariat (Defense) seized more than 200 kilograms of cocaine in Tapachula, Chiapas. In addition, a native of Sinaloa was arrested.
The facts were reported by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) on Tuesday, December 17. Authorities detailed that the seizure represents a million-dollar impact for criminal groups.
The captured subject was identified as Sergio Iván R. C., he was driving a tractor-trailer in which there were doses of cocaine.
Sergio Iván is originally from Culiacán, Sinaloa and was arrested after military agents detected irregularities in the gas tank of the unit that was destined for Mexico City.
“The cost of the drug seized is 51.2 million pesos,” reads the report from the institution headed by Omar Garcia Harfuch. Meanwhile, in a video shared on social networks, members of the army can be seen collecting the packages of drugs from the tractor-trailer.
For its part, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) details that the man was stopped, but he decided to speed up, although in the end he was arrested, because the uniformed officers saw that the fuel tank had a double bottom, which led to the seizure of 212 packages of drugs
“When we told him to stop, the suspect ignored it and accelerated; After being arrested, he mentioned that he was traveling from Tapachula to Mexico City and that he wasn’t carrying any cargo,” the statement reads.
The events occurred at the mobile military post located on the Federal Huehuetán-Tapachula highway. Both the drugs and the suspect were taken to the Public Ministry where the authorities started an investigation for crimes against health and to determine the legal status of Sergio Iván.
While in other actions carried out in Chiapas, specifically in the town of Pantelhó, military agents seized 20 explosive devices, 14 tactical vests and 18 ballistic plates.
Likewise, activities carried out in the same municipality, a long weapon, a grenade launcher, 9,183 rounds, and another 20 improvised explosive devices were seized.
Secretary Omar García Harfuch indicated that this subject was a priority target.
