Elements from the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) clashed with hitmen from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the town of Ayumba in the municipality of Cotija, Michoacán. The action left ten people dead and one military member injured.
The Public Security Secretariat of Michoacan reported on Thursday afternoon that the Civil Guard, in coordination with the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and municipal police, had deployed an operation in the municipalities of Tocumbo and Cotija after receiving reports of gunshots in different areas of the zone.
Later, the same security agency stated that military personnel were attacked by sicarios from the Delta Group, the armed branch of the CJNG, in the town of Ayumba.
Without giving details about the events, the SSP reported that in the place, 10 firearms were seized, one short and nine rifles, ballistic vests bearing the symbol of the structure of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, leader of CJNG, as well as a truck with gunshots.
“Following a confrontation between armed civilians and military personnel, the bodies of 10 civilians killed were found,” the local agency reported.
In the images, the sicarios of the CJNG can be seen dead, wearing tactical clothing with bulletproof vests bearing the logos of the “four letters” cartel and the Delta Group.

El CJNG, led by El Mencho, has different armed branches like the Delta Group. According to declassified documents from Sedena by the Guacamaya group, it is recorded that the Delta Group is used in high-impact operations. They have also been implicated in the assassination of the former governor of Jalisco, Aristóteles Sandoval.

This criminal cell would be led by Francisco Javier Gudiño Haro, also known as “la Gallina”, “Gallo”, or “Galleta”. This individual would be linked to the attack against the former head of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSC), Omar García Harfuch, in June 2020.
More than 50 armed individuals dressed in tactical gear, presumably members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), showed up in Los Reyes. This group, self-proclaimed as Group Delta, has publicly declared its presence in the region, revealed through a video released on Tuesday, April 16th.
The footage shows these subjects in a deserted area, with some cows in the background.
Good afternoon, people of Los Reyes and its surroundings; we are Delta Group of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel of Mr. Mencho and Mr. 3; we are already inside the zone,” declared one of the group’s spokespersons in the video.
Additionally, the spokesperson mentioned several individuals by nicknames, including Harlequin and The Shadow, who, according to him, would be involved in activities that generate fear and false perceptions among the population.
This information suggests a possible dispute or an internal cleaning operation, given that the spokesperson assures that Delta Group does not participate in practices such as “cobro de piso” – a method of extortion commonly associated with organized crime.
The emergence of Delta Group and their declaration of control over Los Reyes are indicative of the ongoing conflict that various factions within the drug trafficking world maintain for the dominance of trafficking routes and strategic regions for their operations.
