On Sunday, May 5th, in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, authorities carried out a series of security operations that resulted in the arrest of six members of the Sinaloa Cartel. During these operations, in addition to the arrests, seven firearms, magazines, cartridges, tactical equipment, and vehicles were seized.
According to the information, elements of the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ) of the State Preventive Police, Mexican Army, and National Guard were conducting surveillance patrols in the community of San José de la Barranca when sicarios opened fire on them.
While repelling the attack, one of the assailants was taken down, and no security personnel were reported injured. In this incident, the apprehension of two individuals was also achieved. One identified as Jesús Yahir N., 20 years old, originally from Sinaloa, and a minor of 15 years old, native of Durango.

In a second action, in the Colonia Plenitud community, also in Fresnillo, members of the FRIZ, Mexican Army and National Guard arrested Juan N., 19 years old, and Felipe N., 27 years old, both originally from Durango.
Likewise, they secured two long firearms, six magazines, 120 live cartridges, a bucket with metal stars, known as tire puncturers, a uniform, and a pair of tactical boots, as well as a Toyota Rav vehicle. According to the initial investigations, there are indications that this unit may have participated in the attack last December on the director of the Municipal Police of Fresnillo.
Afterwards, while the Security Forces were conducting patrols near the Emiliano Zapata community in Saín Alto municipality, they were able to apprehend two men. The suspects, identified as Luis Fernando N. (24 years old) and Juan Pablo N. (47 years old), are originally from Durango and Chihuahua, respectively.
In this incident, two long firearms, two vehicles, and two ballistic vests were secured.
In total, six people were arrested, one aggressor was shot down, and seven long weapons, four vehicles, two bulletproof vests, a bucket of tire spikes, a uniform, and a pair of tactical boots were secured.
All of the detainees stated to be members of the Sinaloa Cartel (El Mayos).
The detainees, weapons, vehicles, and other objects were secured and handed over to the competent authority in order to carry out the investigation as required by law. The Security Forces reaffirm their commitment to maintaining continuous work that allows for progress in the pacification of Zacatecas.
After the arrest of six alleged members of the Sinaloa Cartel, the criminal group responded with a series of acts of violence, including the burning of vehicles and armed confrontations.

The State Peace and Security Council of Zacatecas reported that in the municipalities of Pánfilo Natera and Trancoso, burned vehicles were found, attributed to the Pacific Cartel, another name for the Sinaloa Cartel. This situation led to the activation of anti-blockade protocols by the authorities, in order to remove the burned vehicles and carry out a road deployment to try to locate those responsible for these acts.
These acts of violence follow a confrontation that took place in the community of San José de las Barrancas, in Fresnillo, and in the municipality of Sain Alto, where security forces encountered strong resistance from the alleged criminals.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of the State (FGE) confirmed that, on Federal Highway 49, section Zacatecas-San Luis Potosí, four burned vehicles were found, and in another event two bodies were found, marking an escalation in the level of violence. In addition, at night, the incineration of a truck was reported near the Villas de Guadalupe subdivision, close to a well-known hotel in the town of Guadalupe, as well as attacks in Fresnillo aimed at the UNIRSE facilities.
On the same day, the roadblocks continued into the night with the burning of vehicles. There were specific reports of incidents on Federal Highway Number 45 in the community of Martínez Domínguez, in the municipality of Guadalupe, as well as roadblocks in the main towns of Ojocaliente and Luis Moya.
