In the southwest of Michoacán, the inhabitants of the towns of Coahuayana, Palos Marías, El Órgano, and Zapotán have been living days of intense siege. Despite controlling at least 21 entities in the country, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) seeks to dominate these territories bordering Colima. For this, they have used various weapons, from high-caliber firearms to chemical bombs.
This was announced by the mayor of Coahuayana, Gildardo Ruíz Velázquez, who, on April 4th, reported on the incursion of 100 hitmen from the criminal organization led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” into the territory he governs.
According to the available data, unexpectedly, during the early hours of April 3rd, members of the four-letter cartel arrived in Coahuayana and began attacking the population.

Through a statement, it was reported that, in addition to burning vehicles and using firearms to intimidate the population, the CJNG employed the use of drones to launch explosive C4 bombs and chemicals that produce suffocating weapons with which they quickly controlled the towns of Palos María and El Órgano.
The fact is that although the use of modified drones to launch explosives is a strategy that had already been linked to this criminal group, it allows them to carry out long-distance attacks and reduce the risk for their members. Until now, the use of chemical bombs during confrontations has not been reported.
Even the Apatzingán Human Security Observatory pointed out that this type of attack can be classified as war crimes. In contrast, the municipal government of Coahuayana classified it as a “terrorist threat.”

According to information from Radio Formula, the chemicals present in CJNG’s bombs cause itching and burning in the respiratory tract, leading to a sense of suffocation.
As reported by Infobae Mexico, the effects of these bombs were evidenced in Coahuayana, as at least five members of the community police were impacted aIIII during their confrontation with the CJNG.
According to Commander Héctor Zepeda Navarrete, as reported by Latinus, the chemicals used during the aggression were launched using a device known as a “potato launcher.”
“When they were on top of the hills shooting at us from some ravines, they threw chemicals at us with a rocket launcher or a potato launcher that they were carrying because they flew very far and that thing they were throwing made a loud noise. It was a chemical powder that spread like smoke,” he explained.

On the other hand, the explosive bombs C4, referred to by the authorities of Coahuayana, are a type of plastic explosive composed mainly of RDX (Cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine) with plasticizers and oils, which gives it a malleable texture and easy-to-mold.
This type of weapon is characterized by its incredible power and stability, which allows it to be handled without the risk of detonation upon impact, friction, or sparks; its activation requires a specific detonator.
The CJNG is known for its extreme violence and use of a wide range of weaponry. Among the weapons most commonly associated with this group are:
