Three people were killed at the nightlife hotspot known as Jakarta Clublife in Hermosillo, Sonora. Two individuals were also injured.
Among these individuals is the son of a criminal leader sanctioned by the United States, confirmed the prosecution of the entity.
“One of the injured, Kevin Alejandro “N”, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Treasury Department, recently identified his father as a member of the criminal organization operating from Nogales, Sonora. As a result, the General Attorney’s Office will be notified,” they detailed in a statement released on Sunday, January 28th.
Although the Sonora Prosecutor’s Office noted that among the injured was the son of a member of a criminal organization, they did not share the name of the criminal organization in question.
On the other hand, some reports indicated that alleged members of Los Chapitos and Los Salazar would be involved in the violent actions, as detailed by El Financiero.
But other unconfirmed reports pointed out that those involved in the shootout would be members of another group linked to the Sinaloa Cartel. The information shared by the Sonoran authorities is that the man was sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
One of the criminal groups with these characteristics that operates in Sonora is Malas Mañas, which has its main operations center in Sonora. This criminal group has been linked to human trafficking towards the United States.
But another criminal organization sanctioned by the Department of the Treasury is the Morgan Huerta family, which was sanctioned on November 7, 2023.

According to reports from authorities, Juan Carlos Morgan Huerta, also known as Cacayo, is the leader of the family clan. This experienced man is identified as the plaza boss of the Sinaloa Cartel in Nogales, Sonora, where he oversees the trafficking of drugs such as fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
Last October, Lamadrid “S”, also known as El Delta, was arrested. He is believed to be a leader of the criminal cell known as Los Paredes. There are reports indicating a possible relationship between this organization and the Pacific Cartel, specifically with Los Chapitos. However, despite also operating in Sonora, they have not been sanctioned by the OFAC.
The Valenzuela Valenzuela twins are a group identified and sanctioned by OFAC. This criminal cell, also known as Los Yiyos, is allegedly led by Sergio Valenzuela Valenzuela and/or Felipe de Jesús Sosa Canisales, known as “El Gigio” and/or “Yiyo”, who reportedly takes orders from Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.

Sonora is a relevant entity for organized crime, as in addition to the mentioned groups, the Caborca Cartel also operates, a criminal group created by Rafael Caro Quintero, The Narco of Narco.
Similarly, last November, a convoy of state military and police in Sonora was ambushed by a criminal group on the morning of October 31st as they were traveling on the road connecting the municipalities of Oquitoa and Altar.
Some reports indicated that the possible perpetrators of the attack could be Los Durangos and Los Pelones, both linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
As a result of the presence of various groups linked to organized crime in Sonora, several violent acts have been reported, such as the attempted rescue of a man that left 12 people dead. The man in question is Carlos Humberto “N”, identified by authorities as the son of Jesús Humberto Limón López, also known as El Chubeto or El Cazador.
