The statements made by former tenant of the Hongo penal complex, Jorge Hank Rhon, were the push needed for the MORENA-PES alliance to break in Baja California.
As reported in ZETA yesterday, Thursday January 18th, Morena decided to get rid of the PES – a party that was bought by the Hank Rhon family for the amusement of their children – and team up solely with the PVEM and FXM for the June 2024 election.
Through a post on the social network formerly known as Twitter, now X, Citlali Hernandez, general secretary of Morena, announced a work meeting with Hugo Erik Flores, national representative of the PES, a party with which they have allied in previous electoral processes.
“The short message doesn’t provide much context, but in the second paragraph of the publication, it was confirmed that they will go together in many parts of the country. However, it was confirmed that Baja California is not one of them.”
The second in command of National Morena, stated that they will work together for the Fourth Transformation in other states of the country where the party is registered.
PES is a party that has accompanied us since 2018. The large vote that @PartidoMorenaMx received then prevented them from achieving their national registration, but all their legislators have always supported the project of the 4T. This means that, despite the efforts of the Morena group close to the State Government, the alliance with the PES has ended, so the intention agreement to form a coalition signed by the national leaders will have to be undone.
It should be noted that the alliance between Morena and the PES was widely questioned both inside and outside the ruling party, to the point that several members of Morena publicly expressed their rejection.
At various moments, there were rumors of a breakup, but it wasn’t until former Mayor of Tijuana, Jorge Hank Rhon, made a public statement criticizing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that the separation was finalized.
