Tijuana customs seizure yields 1,357 kilograms of methamphetamine and 10 kilograms of fentanyl

Mexican customs and National Guard personnel seized approximately 1,357 kilograms of methamphetamine and 10 kilograms of fentanyl in the export area of the Tijuana Customs facility, authorities said. The shipment was headed for the United States, and the seizure was announced on Sept. 18, 2026, in a joint security communiqué.

According to Infobae México, a detection dog named RINI alerted officers to several boxes during routine inspections. Customs personnel then expanded the physical search and found packages containing the drugs. The shipment was placed at the disposal of the federal public prosecutor, while authorities did not disclose the intended U.S. crossing point, any arrests or the exact date of the operation.

Infobae México reported that the case follows a separate Sept. 8 seizure at the same export facility, where authorities found 75.9 kilograms of cocaine hidden in the double floor of a truck carrying prickly pears. The dog Chocolate alerted officers to the concealed compartment, and the cargo was also referred to federal prosecutors.

The source also described a separate Sept. 18 customs action in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, involving 27,216 kilograms of tartaric acid from Shanghai. Authorities said the substance was immobilized at the request of the Attorney General’s Office after risk-analysis procedures, citing open and specialized sources that discuss its possible use in separating chiral forms of controlled substances, including methamphetamine.
