Eight detained in Mazatlán security operations
Seven operations in Mazatlán resulted in eight detentions and the reported seizure of 19 firearms, more than 2,000 rounds, 14 homemade explosive devices and 415 fentanyl tablets. Los Noticieristas Policiaca reported that authorities identified Erik Samuel “N” and José Luis “N” as alleged members or operators of criminal cells; their legal status remains pending.
Mazatlán operations leave eight detained and weapons, explosives and fentanyl seized
Security forces detained eight people and seized firearms, ammunition, homemade explosives and suspected drugs during seven operations in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, according to Los Noticieristas Policiaca. The operations involved Mexico’s Defense and Navy secretariats, the Federal Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and state authorities.
Authorities said armed civilians attacked SSPC personnel during a security patrol in El Quelite. Officers returned fire under established protocols and detained six people, including Erik Samuel “N,” whom authorities identified as an alleged operator of a criminal cell. The operation also produced two vehicles, six long guns, 12 magazines and six tactical vests.
In separate actions, authorities detained one person near the Vainillo II toll plaza after finding a long gun, a handgun, three magazines and 78 rounds. In Veranos, Navy personnel reported an armed attack and seized five long guns, eight magazines and 210 rounds. Patrols in Siqueros located five long guns, 20 magazines and 1,840 rounds.
According to the authorities’ overall account, the seven operations resulted in the seizure of 19 firearms, more than 2,000 rounds, 14 homemade explosive devices, 415 fentanyl tablets, two vehicles and tactical equipment. Specialized personnel disabled the explosive devices near El Quelite. In another operation, SSPC agents detained José Luis “N,” whom authorities identified as a member of a criminal cell and linked to investigations into homicide and other serious crimes; they also seized a long gun, a magazine and drug doses.
The detainees and seized items were placed at the disposal of the relevant public prosecutor, who will determine the detainees’ legal status and continue the investigations. The accusations and official identifications remain allegations pending judicial proceedings.
