Federal authorities arrest alleged Los Mayos plaza boss in Mexicali
Ernesto Enrique “N,” alias “Niño,” was arrested with another person in Mexicali, Baja California, during an operation on Sept. 23, according to Mexico’s Defense Ministry. Federal authorities identify him as the alleged plaza boss for the Los Mayos faction of the Pacific Cartel in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora.
Hoy Tamaulipas reported that the operation followed an exchange of information with U.S. Northern Command and work by Mexican military intelligence. National Guard special forces, the Mexican Army and the Attorney General’s Office participated. Authorities also allege that Niño operated in Mexicali and Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and was involved in drug and weapons trafficking between Mexico and the United States.
Defense officials further identify him as a close associate of Jesús Alexander and/or Juan José “N,” known as “Ruso,” whom authorities describe as a leader of Los Rusos, another Pacific Cartel group. Drugs, weapons and ammunition were seized, although officials did not release quantities. The detainee also faces a federal arrest warrant for alleged possession of fentanyl for commercial purposes. Both detainees and the seized items were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office in Mexicali, which will determine their legal status.
