Tijuana truck yields suspected cocaine and fentanyl
NTV Nayarit reports that authorities found 237 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 12.65 kilograms of suspected fentanyl in 195 packages hidden in a tractor-trailer at Tijuana’s Otay crossing.
Mexican authorities detained a truck driver after finding 237 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 12.65 kilograms of suspected fentanyl hidden in a tractor-trailer bound for the United States through the Otay border crossing in Tijuana, NTV Nayarit reported.
The outlet reported that personnel from Mexico’s National Customs Agency stopped the vehicle during an inspection and, with help from a detection dog named Chocolate, found a false compartment inside the trailer. Authorities said the compartment contained 195 packages: 184 allegedly containing cocaine and 11 allegedly containing fentanyl.
According to NTV Nayarit, the operation involved Customs, the Defense Ministry, the National Guard and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. Officials seized the vehicle and packages for an investigation into the shipment’s origin and destination. The driver was informed of his rights and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will continue the proceedings and determine his legal status.
