Authorities say a truck driver was detained after inspectors found 195 packages containing suspected cocaine and fentanyl in a hidden compartment at the Otay border crossing.

Mexican authorities seized approximately 249 kilograms of suspected drugs hidden in a truck’s double-bottom compartment at the Otay border crossing in Tijuana and detained the driver, according to Publimetro México. The haul included 237 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 12.65 kilograms of suspected fentanyl, authorities reported.
The inspection was carried out by personnel from Mexico’s National Customs Agency in coordination with the Defense Ministry, National Guard and Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. A detection dog named Chocolate alerted officers to irregularities in the truck’s cargo box. Inspectors then found 195 packages concealed in the compartment: 184 containing suspected cocaine and 11 containing suspected fentanyl.
Publimetro México reported that the driver was informed of his legal rights and placed at the disposal of the appropriate public prosecutor, which will determine his legal status and continue investigating the drugs’ origin and destination. The Security Cabinet said photographs from the operation showed the canine team, the hidden compartment and the detainee with the personnel involved.
