Mexican authorities arrested Ernesto Enrique “N,” known as “El Niño,” who was described by Radar BC as the alleged plaza chief for the Mayos faction of the Pacific Cartel, during an operation in Mexicali, Baja California. Another person was detained in the operation, which involved Special Forces of the National Guard, the Mexican Army and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), Radar BC reported.
According to official reports cited by Radar BC, El Niño operated mainly in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, and had a presence in Mexicali and Los Mochis, Sinaloa. Authorities also alleged that he was involved in cross-border drug and weapons trafficking between Mexico and the United States and was a close associate of Jesús Alexander and/or Juan José “N,” known as “El Ruso,” who was identified as the leader of Los Rusos.
The operation followed an intelligence exchange with U.S. Northern Command and military intelligence work by Mexico’s Defense Secretariat. Authorities said they seized drugs, firearms and ammunition and confirmed that Ernesto Enrique “N” had an active federal arrest warrant related to the alleged possession of fentanyl for commercial purposes. The detainees and seized material were transferred to the FGR delegation in Mexicali while investigators determine their legal status.
