Pedro “N”, known as “El Pichón” (The Pigeon), identified as the second-in-command within the criminal cell headed by Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, alias “El Chapo Isidro,” was killed by members of the Mexican Navy (Semar) during an operation in the state of Sinaloa over the weekend.
According to federal authorities, the man died after allegedly attacking naval personnel with firearms in an operation that also resulted in two arrests and the seizure of clandestine drug labs.
The case gained immediate attention because “El Pichón” was wanted on an extradition order to the United States, where he is accused of crimes related to fentanyl and cocaine trafficking.
This is how “El Pichón” fell in the Sinaloa operation
The operations took place in the municipalities of Guasave and Ahome, where Semar personnel entered several properties linked to the criminal organization. According to the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, the marines were met with gunfire, which led to a confrontation in which “Pichón” was killed.
Two alleged members of the same cell were arrested along with him:
Adelemo “N,” alias “Lemu,” identified as a logistics operator.
Miguel “N,” identified as an alleged hitman.
During the raids, the Navy reported the seizure of two clandestine laboratories where synthetic drugs were being produced. According to the Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, these properties represented key points for the Sinaloa Cartel’s operations in the region, their dismantling represents a direct blow to its production capacity.
The United States congratulates the operation.
Hours later, the United States Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, publicly acknowledged the work of the Mexican authorities. In a statement, he emphasized that the killing of “El Pichón” and the arrests were part of a broader operation against the Sinaloa Cartel that also included the seizure of weapons, vehicles, and chemical precursors.
Johnson noted that “El Pichón” faced charges in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California for conspiracy to import and distribute fentanyl and cocaine, and was also under investigation for homicides, kidnappings, and torture in Mexico.
Who was “El Pichón”?
Pedro Inzunza, alias “El Pichón,” was the son of Pedro Inzunza Noriega, “Sagitario,” one of the former leaders of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel. Both were indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) last May on charges of narco terrorism, accused of participating for decades in the trafficking of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines, and, more recently, fentanyl.
Their organization maintained an international network that transported drugs from Colombia to the United States, increasing its presence in the trafficking of synthetic substances. In fact, on December 3, 2024, Mexican authorities seized 1,500 kilograms of fentanyl at properties linked to the Inzunza family, considered one of the largest seizures of this drug in the world.
