The elements of the prison system had left their shift and were heading home in a private vehicle.
Three guards from the León prison were ambushed in the San Agustín del Mirasol community on Friday morning; two died on the spot and their partner was left seriously injured.
Supposedly the guards had stopped the car next to a store to make purchases and at that moment they were shot.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on a stretch of the Los Ramírez-Santa Ana del Conde highway. The guards were trying to reach their home in the Los Rodríguez community, a neighborhood in the municipality of Silao.
The driver and co-pilot died in the car; a guard who was in the back seat survived the shooting.
The dead elements were identified as Luis and Julio by one of their companions; the injured victim is receiving treatment in a hospital.
After the incident, security elements from the three levels of government carried out a police deployment on country roads and nearby highways.
From January to November 1, 2024, at least 48 security elements have been killed in direct attacks in various municipalities of the state.
