Authorities reopened all four lanes of the Parral-Jiménez highway this afternoon after they were blocked for nearly two hours by armed individuals who used two cargo trucks to block traffic.
According to initial reports, the perpetrators abandoned the trucks in the middle of the road, causing a complete traffic jam and forcing law enforcement agencies from all three levels of government to launch an operation to clear the highway.
The area was secured by military and state personnel, who verified that there were no devices or additional hazards before allowing motorists to return to the road.
Authorities reported that they are investigating whether this blockade is related to the armed confrontation that occurred moments earlier in the Santa Teresa lane, where six people were killed and three others were injured, according to unofficial reports.
The temporary closure caused concern among residents of Parral, Jiménez, and nearby communities, who were left isolated during the operation to clear the blockade.
Following the reopening, the governments of Parral and Allende issued an urgent appeal to their residents to avoid traveling on the highway, recommending they remain in their homes due to the ongoing climate of insecurity in the region.
Authorities also asked citizens to stay tuned to official information and avoid spreading rumors that could generate panic among the population.
To date, no law enforcement agency has confirmed any arrests or provided details about those responsible for the blockade, while the investigation continues to determine if the two violent incidents are linked.
