The President affirmed that Mexico’s sovereignty isn’t negotiable after the publication of the declaration of Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations.
President Claudia Sheinbaum warned that the designation of six Mexican cartels as terrorist groups cannot be an opportunity for the United States government – headed by Donald Trump – to invade the sovereignty of our country.
At the morning press conference at the National Palace, the president warned that her government will not allow interference or an invasion by the North American administration.
“This cannot be an opportunity for the United States to invade our sovereignty, they can name them whatever they want, but with Mexico there will be collaboration and coordination, never subordination, non-interference and even less invasion,” she said.
The head of the Federal Executive stressed that the construction of peace and zero impunity are fundamental elements in her security strategy, which is why her government shares with the United States that organized crime groups must be fought.
“Beyond the name they give us, we obviously share with the United States government the fight against these criminal groups, particularly for their impact on the violence they have in our country,” she added.
Sheinbaum Pardo said that she will not negotiate the sovereignty of the country. “In addition, we obviously cooperate so that there is no trafficking, particularly of synthetic drugs, although of all drugs, which are obviously illegal, but what we want to make clear in the face of this designation is that we don’t negotiate sovereignty, as I said yesterday.”
For the above, Claudia Sheinbaum presented a constitutional reform against interventions and interference in our country. These are modifications to articles 39 and 40 of the Constitution, to protect national sovereignty, with the objective of avoiding violations in the national territory, by air, sea and land.
Mexico t expand lawsuit against US gun shops
Sheinbaum also announced that her government will expand the lawsuit it has in progress against arms manufacturing companies, due to their collaboration with drug cartels (considered terrorist organizations).
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on it and we are going to present it here because of the lawsuit that the Mexican government has against arms producers and distributors and after the resolution of January 8 of the United States Department of Justice,” she explained.
The president reported that 74 percent of the weapons seized in Mexico come from the United States, there has to be “a link between who sells the weapons to these criminal groups,” that now labeled as ‘terrorists’.
She also assured that her government works together with that of her American counterpart, Donald Trump, to confront arms trafficking between both countries.
