Several Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles Are Seized

The units were set on fire on the road to San Fernando, after staging confrontations in the southeast area of this city.

The “Monstruo” type vehicle was set on fire on the Reynosa-San Fernando highway yesterday morning.

After clashes between antagonistic groups, at least two Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles (IAFV) were set on fire on the Reynosa-San Fernando highway; the authorities became aware of the violent events and initiated an investigation.

It was shortly before 6:00 a.m. when the fire of a vehicle with handmade armor was reported on the Reynosa-Urracas highway, at kilometer 58, shortly before the access to the Plan del Alazán community.

Authorities from the State Guard and National Guard, as well as firefighters, arrived at the site to extinguish the truck, which was still burning, and finally investigative police from the Attorney General’s Office of Tamaulipas arrived.

Kilometers ahead, another armored vehicle was found at kilometer 52, just before the Francisco I. Madero community, with its doors open and on fire.

The investigating authorities also went to the San Lorenzo community, where the remains of a burned vehicle were found, which is also suspected of having participated in the violent events of the early morning.

The highway was partially closed so that the authorities could carry out ministerial diligences and encapsulate some evidence at the sites.

Residents of some neighborhoods and communities indicated that the fight began in the hours before midnight and early morning, with the sound of heavy caliber machine guns, the screeching of tires and some chases, especially in the southern neighborhoods of the city.
