There are no arrest warrants in Baja California against Pablo Edwin Huerta Nuño, also known as Eduardo López Navarro, better known as “El Flaquito”. This was confirmed by the Attorney General of the State (FGE), María Elena Andrade Ramírez, after the operation in which federal authorities allegedly arrested one of the main sources of violence in the region.
Both the state prosecutor Andrade and general Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, state secretary of Citizen Security, confirmed that as of 1:00 pm the federation had not formally notified of the detention. During a press conference at the FGE offices in Tijuana, they reiterated that they did not intervene in the operation, which was coordinated solely between the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and an elite group of the National Guard (GN). They pointed out that the case was not discussed in the security meetings led by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.
“We do not have a specific arrest warrant against this person. However, there may be several files related to the activities of this person, such as homicides, which is where the State Attorney General’s Office comes in. We may be able to prove or demonstrate their potential involvement in these homicides, at any level of participation,” explained prosecutor Andrade Ramirez.
“This person, we do have identified as a generator of violence, belonging to a criminal organization here in Tijuana, with a significant presence in the areas of the Zona Centro district, Sánchez Taboada, and the Zona Norte of Ensenada. They have also been identified as responsible for drug trafficking, small-scale drug dealing, and theft of drugs from rival groups. This individual had already been arrested in 2012. And we have him as a generator of violence in the region,” explained General Carrillo Rodríguez.
In light of the arrest of the alleged member of the Arellano Felix Cartel (CAF), local authorities expect to exchange information with the federal government in order to initiate legal proceedings in cases where Huerta Nuno may be involved.
“And we do not rule out, with the information that could be shared with us by the Attorney General’s Office, through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, any involvement or joint leadership of this individual in the subject of any homicide investigations that have taken place, especially in Tijuana and parts of Ensenada.”
